Postgraduate Programme

The Food Science and Technology (FST) Programme offers research programmes leading to MSc and PhD degrees.

A graduate student is expected to work independently, with supervision by up to three academic advisors on an original research project. A thesis is presented at the end of the candidature for formal examination. Graduate students are required to attend selected modules during the semester which are offered at the graduate level by the Department of Chemistry and other departments in the University.
NUS provides generous research scholarships for full-time students. Upon conversion to a PhD candidate, a top up of S$500 is added to the scholarship. (See Table 1)

For the lastest figures, please check at the Registrar's Office.

The Department of Chemistry, by which the FST postgraduates are administered, has a current enrolment of around 260 postgraduates candidates, which includes around 25 postgraduates candidates from FST. The graduate population in the Department includes not only Singaporean students but also those from foreign countries like Malaysia, India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Bangladesh, the Philippines, China, Spain, Germany, France, etc. This diversity makes for an excellent, multinational research environment that is almost matched by the multicultural background of the Department's academic staff.

The Programme welcomes graduate applications in all the main areas of research that its staff members are engaged in. For enquiries on the area of expertise of individual staff, please refer to the staff webpage. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the following individual staff members directly regarding the research projects currently open under his/her supervision:

Unless otherwise stated, all applicants for research projects under all staff members above will be considered for NUS Research Scholarships.

Please refrain from sending multiple e-mails indiscriminately to prospective supervisors, the Head of Department, and the Graduate Studies Advisor - this may delay processing of your enquiry.

Other related information is given in the links provided on the left frame.

It is extremely important that you as an applicant to clearly indicate in the application, that your proposed research field is Food Science and Technology.
