Undergraduate Admission Information

Degree Programme Offered:

  1. Primary Major in Food Science and Technology*
  2. Second Major in Food Science **

* No Restriction to students who wish to do any minor or secondary major in other disciplines

** Students are required to do Primary Major in Chemistry

Admission Requirements

To qualify as one of the selected intake in any particular academic year, students should have

  1. Good H2 pass or equivalent in Chemistry and a H2 pass or equivalent in Biology or Mathematics or Physics or Computer Science/ Computing
  2. Good O-level pass or equivalent, or above in Biology**
  3. Polytechnic graduates in accredited diplomas with good results may also apply.

    ** For those without H2-passes/ equivalent in Biology, they MUST take the bridging module LSM1301 General Biology in Semester1.

Waiver of Course Requirements

Candidates who have excellent H2 level results in pure sciences may apply for waiver of certain first year modules. Polytechnic graduates with excellent results in food related courses may also apply for advanced placement credits and exemption.

Application for Admission

Direct Admission

From AY2017/18, both the primary major in Food Science & Technology and the second major in Food Science are directly admitted through the University Admission Exercise.

Applicants need to select "Food Science & Technology course" and the "second Major in Food Science" as one of the choices when applying via the online admission application portal during the University Admissions Exercise before the deadline.

Admission is based on academic merit as well as open competition among all eligible applicants. Please visit the Office of Admissions’ website at http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply-to-nus.html to check the admission requirements for these programme.

The University may also consider applicants for admission based on other merits besides academic results under the discretionary admission (DA) route. Eligible DA candidates, based on evidence of their merits, will be shortlisted for an admission interview.

Other Applicants

Applicant applying for the Food Science Technology programme who falls under the categories below will need to apply via the online application form:

  1. Returning NSmen with NUS High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma [enrolling in AY2017/2018]
  2. NUS High School Diploma [enrolling in AY2017/2018, AY2018/2019 and AY2019/2020]
  3. Other International Qualifications (e.g. Edexcel A-level, Unified Examination Certificate) [enrolling in AY2017/2018]

Applicants must complete and submit a printed copy of the online application form to the Food Science & Technology Programme office at Block S14 level 5, Science Drive 2, Singapore 117546 during office hours or post to Food Science and Technology Programme, c/o Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore, 3 Science Drive 3, Singapore 117543.

The application window for admission into the Food Science & Technology programme will close on 22 May 2017 at 2359 hours. The University will notify FST applicants of the outcome in June-July 2017. If the FST applicant is not successful, he/she will remain in the Science course provided he/she has accepted the Science Offer by the due date stipulated in the NUS offer letter, or has already confirmed the Science course place accepted earlier while serving National Service (referring to Returning NSmen).
