Jointly offered by School of Fishery Sciences, Hokkaido University (HU) and National University of Singapore (NUS), FST2204: Seafood Supply Chains in Japan and Singapore is a 7-week intensive summer programme, which aims to provide students with a practical and in-depth knowledge of the seafood industry in Japan and Singapore.
The programme gives you a chance to broaden your knowledge on the origin of seafood products, as well as understanding how seafood products are processed before they reach the market. It is also a good gateway to understand another country’s culture and make new friends.

Dates
The programme dates are from 2 June 2025 – 17 July 2025, with the assessment weeks starting from 7 July 2025.
The physical programme at Hokkaido University will be from 9 to 13 June, whereas the program at NUS will be from 23 to 27 June.
Location
The programme takes place in Hokkaido, Japan, at Hokkaido University (Hakodate Campus) and in Singapore at NUS, Faculty of Science.
NUS students are expected to arrive in Hakodate, Japan on 8 June 2024.

Academic Information
The programme is co-taught by lecturers from the NUS Department of Food Science & Technology and professors from the School of Fishery Sciences, Hokkaido University. Lectures, e-learning, practical lessons, field trips and collaborative group work are all part of the programme. Assessment for this course consists of presentation, report and reflective essay. There is no final exam.

Eligibility Criteria
NUS students must:
Be a full-time Faculty of Science student.
Have a clean disciplinary record.
Not intending to graduate at the end of Semester 2.
National Servicemen who are not called up for In-Camp Training (ICT). Deferment letter will not be provided.
Credits
At the end of the programme, you will earn 4 units which can be used towards fulfilling Unrestricted Elective requirement. The S/U option can be exercised on this course.
Number of Places
There are 20 places for NUS students and 10 places for HU students.
Programme Cost
Students do not need to pay NUS Special Term fees nor tuition fees to Hokkaido University, but are responsible for their own airfare, accommodation, meals, personal expenses, etc, and would have to make your own arrangements and bookings.

Financial Assistance

Eligible students* selected for this programme may apply for the FoS Global Classroom Grant (capped at $500). This is a one-time grant, subjected to review by the faculty.
For students who require additional financial support, you may also apply for the Science Student Overseas Exposure Fund (SSOEF).
The NASA Enhancement Scholarship is also available on a competitive basis to students* selected for this programme. The scholarship will be granted based on academic merit.
Please note that this course involves financial commitment. Financial aid and grants provided will only defray some of the costs. The above-mentioned financial aid will only be disbursed after the completion of the overseas programme. Your decision to sign up for this course should be independent of whether you will be successful in your funding application.

Students will be sent the online application form once you have been offered a place for the FST2204 Summer Programme.
Students are to complete the online application form and attach all supporting documents before the stipulated due date.

Exclusions to the NUS Student Travel Insurance may apply. Students are to ensure that they have sufficient travel insurance coverage, and may consider purchasing additional travel insurance if required.
