FST2204: Seafood Supply Chains in Japan and Singapore
About The Course
Jointly offered by School of Fishery Sciences, Hokkaido University (HU) and National University of Singapore (NUS), FST2204: Seafood Supply Chains in Japan and Singapore is a 7-week intensive summer programme, which aims to provide students with a practical and in-depth knowledge of the seafood industry in Japan and Singapore.
The programme gives you a chance to broaden your knowledge on the origin of seafood products, as well as understanding how seafood products are processed before they reach the market. It is also a good gateway to understand another country’s culture and make new friends.

Programme Information
Dates
The programme dates are from 25 May 2026 – 16 July 2026, with the assessment weeks starting from 6 July 2026.
The physical programme at Hokkaido University will be from 1 to 5 June 2026, whereas the program at NUS will be from 15 to 19 June 2026.
Location
The programme takes place in Hokkaido, Japan, at Hokkaido University (Hakodate Campus) and in Singapore at NUS, Faculty of Science.
NUS students are expected to arrive in Hakodate, Japan on 31 May 2026.

Academic Information
The programme is co-taught by lecturers from the NUS Department of Food Science & Technology and professors from the School of Fishery Sciences, Hokkaido University. Lectures, e-learning, practical lessons, field trips and collaborative group work are all part of the programme. Assessment for this course consists of presentation, report and reflective essay. There is no final exam.

Eligibility Criteria
NUS students must:
- Be a full-time Faculty of Science student.
- Have a clean disciplinary record.
- Not intending to graduate at the end of Semester 2.
- National Servicemen who are not called up for In-Camp Training (ICT). Deferment letter will not be provided.
Credits
At the end of the programme, you will earn 4 units which can be used towards fulfilling Unrestricted Elective requirement. The S/U option can be exercised on this course.
Number of Places
There are 20 places for NUS students and 10 places for HU students.
Programme Cost
Students do not need to pay NUS Special Term fees nor tuition fees to Hokkaido University, but are responsible for their own airfare, accommodation, meals, personal expenses, etc, and would have to make your own arrangements and bookings.

Financial Assistance

All students selected for this programme will be eligible for the FoS Global Classroom Grant (capped at $500). Do note that you have to apply for it via the Financial Aid application form in order to receive the grant. This grant will only be disbursed to you after the Hokkaido portion of the course.
Please note that each student may only receive the grant once during his/her entire candidature.
For students who require additional financial support, you may also apply for the Science Student Overseas Exposure Fund (SSOEF).
The NASA Enhancement Scholarship is also available on a competitive basis to students* selected for this programme. The scholarship will be granted based on academic merit.
Please note that this course involves financial commitment. Financial aid and grants provided will only defray some of the costs. The above-mentioned financial aid will only be disbursed after the completion of the overseas programme. Your decision to sign up for this course should be independent of whether you will be successful in your funding application.
How to apply for financial assistance:
- Students will be sent the online application form once you have been offered a place for the FST2204 Summer Programme.
- Students are to complete the online application form and attach all supporting documents before the stipulated due date.
More information on financial aid and its application will be sent to offered students later.
Insurance
All students travelling overseas for activities or purposes approved, endorsed, organised, sponsored or authorised by NUS will be covered by the NUS Student Travel Insurance Policy. Click here (under Insurance Cover for Official NUS Trips) for more information.
Exclusions to the NUS Student Travel Insurance may apply. Students are to ensure that they have sufficient travel insurance coverage, and may consider purchasing additional travel insurance if required.

How to Apply
- Complete the Travel Preparedness Course (TPC) at least 24 hours before applying in EduRec.
- Read the External Study Programme Application Guide.
- Submit your online application via Education Records System (EduRec) (Ext. Study Setup ID: 03657) with the following supporting document by 20 February 2026, 11:59pm Singapore Time.

Applications would be deemed incomplete even after submission if the required documents are not received by the stipulated deadline, and therefore disqualified from the application.
